The Memory Box Project Partnership with NCS,'.
The Memory Box Project is excited to be the official partner for 2019 of NCS Youth Options (Southampton).
"The National Citizen Service (NCS) programme is an initiative, supporting 16 and 17-year-olds from all backgrounds to work together, take on new challenges and make a difference. It aims to promote a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society by bringing young people from different backgrounds together to make a difference in their communities. NCS helps young people build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and making new friends.” -NCS Youth Options Website
We will be working with four groups of young people throughout July and August, and each group will be both fundraising for The Memory Box Project, and planning and running a day of activities in a selection of central Southampton dementia care homes.
All the activity days will include a 1:1 creative reminiscence activity workshop. The wonderful artworks, creative writing and memories captured in these workshops are contributing to chapters of our upcoming Memory Book. The Memory Book Project will culminate in a free, intergenerational reminiscence guide and resource available for all users of our service and online, following twelve of our most popular themes.
In the afternoon, the young people will be running a Memory Box Reminiscence session. This will make the most of what they learn about reminiscence during their time with us, how they interpret our resources and using their enthusiasm and imaginations. We are very much looking forward to seeing what the young people ‘bring to the table’ and are confident the residents will very much enjoy these special events. So far we have Bupa Wilton Manor (Southampton) on board for two of the four summer sessions, and are currently organising a second care home partner for this.
Meanwhile, we have also been chatting to another Hampshire NCS provider, Personal Best Education, to potentially work with us in Gosport with the Memory Box Project, and in other parts of Hampshire for Memories Brought Home. This will take place with students from St Vincents College in Autumn 2019. We will be publicising our exciting plans for both of these ventures closer to the time.
