Memories Brought Home

About the Project

Memories Brought Home (MBH) is a National Lottery Heritage Fund & Wessex Heritage Trust project which aims to improve well-being by connecting people to their local heritage.

Starting in March 2019 the project is running for 15 months and will result in a touring exhibition. The team is working with heritage partners across Hampshire to run activities and workshops, giving local people who are experiencing social isolation and loneliness the opportunity to meet new people, learn about the history of their local area and reconnect with their community.

Memories Brought Home is covering the whole of Hampshire, with four main starting hubs in the East and West of the county. Here the first sessions will be run in the New Forest, Romsey, Petersfield and Portchester, with our partner heritage sites Mottisfont House, The New Forest Heritage Centre Museum, Petersfield Museum and Fort Nelson.

Who can attend

Our FREE* sessions are suitable for anyone who feels they are experiencing social isolation and loneliness and would like to take part in heritage based sessions in their local community. Support with transport to sessions within a certain area can be provided (please get in touch for more details) and we welcome people of all ages and abilities.

Sessions are a friendly and welcoming way to explore your local history and culture through local sites, objects, photographs and activities. We invite you to share your memories and experiences along the way and tell your story.

Volunteering

If you have an interest in history, your local area or meeting like-minded people and helping people, volunteering for this project could be for you! We are looking for volunteers for a range of activities including historic research, social media and blogging, transport and assisting at or running sessions.
